Tuesdays with Dave | April 22nd Edition Happy Tuesday, Let’s be honest—everybody loves an award. Even the ones who swear they don’t. Some folks blush when their name gets called. Others practically float to the stage like it’s their rightful place in the world. Some play it cool—modest nod, quiet smile. Others are halfway through their acceptance speech before their name is even announced. But deep down? We all feel it. Recognition matters. From the Grammys to the Golden Globes, from Tony’s curtain calls to Oscar night ovations—every industry has its version of a trophy case. Schools hand out awards for attendance, GPAs, sportsmanship. Sales industries boast plaques, medallions, Top Producer dinners, and corporate shoutouts. And let’s not forget the sacred scroll of real estate production awards: local boards, NAR, national franchises, offices, teams—all doling out the accolades like confetti. Because here’s the truth: recognition isn’t about ego—it’s about acknowledgment. Now, I’m not waving the flag for participation trophies. I’ve raised two boys, and I’ve quoted Talladega Nights more than once: “If you ain’t first, you’re last.” (Okay, maybe not literally—but you get it.) Still, there’s a big difference between coddling and celebrating. Recognition is earned. It’s not handed out like Halloween candy—it’s bestowed like a nod of respect from your peers. And in real estate? That nod can mean the world. Right now, we’re entering Q2—peak real estate award season. It’s time to iron your best shirt, dig out those heels or that blazer, and get ready for the annual parade of plaques, medals, and maybe a few unexpected tears of joy. But this year’s celebration hits different. Because these past 24 months? They’ve been no walk in the park. It’s been a grind. Low inventory. High rates. A lot of hustle for sometimes not a lot of result. Which is why this season of recognition matters more than ever. It’s not just about who closed the most deals. It’s about who stayed in the fight. Who made the calls, kept the faith, lifted others, showed up when it was easier to sit it out. It’s about those who gave their best even when the market gave them nothing. And let’s not forget the other awards—the ones that really light up a room. Best Dressed. Miss Congeniality. Culture Ambassador. Team Player. Spirit Award. These aren’t just fun labels. These are markers of character. They honor people who show up not for themselves, but for the whole. People who give without needing applause. People who make the business better just by being in it. Now, what if your name doesn’t get called this year? Here’s where the rubber meets the road: It doesn’t mean you failed. Not hitting the stage doesn’t erase your effort. It doesn’t mean your work didn’t matter. It just means this year, your success may not be measured in medals—but in grit. In resilience. In staying in the game when others tapped out. That kind of work doesn’t always get a trophy, but trust me—it lays the foundation for next year’s spotlight. And when your colleague does win? Clap the loudest. Give the high five. Be the person they remember when they think about what made that moment great. Because envy won’t move your business forward—but being inspired just might. Recognition isn’t the reward. It’s the reflection. Of the grind. Of the consistency. Of the courage to keep going when it was easier not to. So show up. Cheer loud. And keep doing the work. Because your moment’s coming—spotlight and all.
