Happy Tuesday,
When I was at my peak of writing these Tuesday articles, I was doing a lot of reading. Books. Taking a lot in. Then people started asking why I wasn’t writing anymore, and I’d laugh it off. But the truth I finally landed on is simple: creating something for others requires input. Expression requires input. If I’m not taking anything in, it’s no wonder I’m not putting anything out.
Expression requires input.
It wasn’t dramatic. There was no crisis — just a slow fade. The reading stopped, the writing stopped, the podcast stopped. Maybe all for the same reason.
Here’s what’s changed: I’ve started reading again. There’s a handful of half-read books on my desk right now, and I mean that as a progress report.
The first book I picked back up was a reread. Something familiar. When you’re restarting, you don’t want a challenge — you want comfort. You want to remember what it felt like to love reading.
And then the ideas started coming back. Not all at once. But back.
A handful of people in the last few days have said it out loud: “You’re different.” “You seem lighter.” “You’ve got your energy back.” I laugh that off too. But maybe they’re noticing something real — that I’ve replugged in. Reading again. Thinking again. Writing again.
So the Tuesdays are back. For three years this letter went to a private list; now it’s public, on my own site, on a list I own. The role can change without the impact changing — and the room just gets bigger. Same time every Tuesday. About three minutes. The business of real estate, the numbers behind the numbers, leadership, and the occasional story about my kids.
You have to fill back up. That’s the whole secret, and it isn’t one.
Pull up a chair. See you next Tuesday.
— Dave
P.S. New here? Start with these three — they say what this letter is better than I can:
